Cangas de Onís (Asturias)

Peruyes is a village located

in a privileged place.

On one hand, the Picos de Europa, one of the most beautiful natural parks in Europe. On the other, the most attractive beaches in Spain and less crowded. Ribadesella

Pretty fishing village with a great beach flanked by Indians Palaces. In addition, the old town was declared Historic-Artistic and is very pleasant to walk around. Cangas de Onís

First capital of the kingdom of Asturias, with famous monuments like the Big Bridge, 1200 a.c. In the main street you will find the information offices to enjoy the area and Picos de Europa mountains, the Tourist Office of Cangas de Onis (Casa Riera, Avda. Covadonga 1): 985 84 80 05, and the Tourist Office of Picos de Europa National Park (Casa Dago, Avda. Covadonga 43): 985 84 86 14.

Jurassic Museum of Asturias

A complete area museum paleontology and fossils from the Jurassic: Rd AS257, km1’5, www.museojurasico.com,

902 306 300. On the coast between Lastres and Ribadesella are a lot of dinosaur footprints, with some of the largest in the world. They can be easily seen on La Griega Beach and Vega Beach.

Covadonga

Sanctuary of Covadonga, Holy Cave Shrine and the Virgin figure (important destination of pilgrimage for Christians), and tombs of Kings Pelayo (Asturias first king and first leader of Spanish Reconquest) and Alfonso I.

Lastres

Lovely traditional fishing village with numerous restaurants and sites of dinosaur footprints along the coast.

Cares Gorge, Poncebos

One of the most beautiful walking routes in Europe, along the path of the impressive Cares River Gorge, 14km-long: www.rutadelcares.org.

Old town, Memory Cubes (paintings on blocks port breakwater, by Agustin Ibarrola famous artist) and near village, Peña Tu Idol (majestic rock paintings from the Bronze Age).

Bulnes, Poncebos

Tazones

Beautiful village was declared Historic-Artistic where

Carlos V landed to reign in Castile and Aragon. Perfect to enjoy seafood in many restaurants. It also has deposits of footprints of dinosaurs.

Gijon

The ancient Roman Gigia is today one of the most modern cities in northern Spain, with many activities, life and culture, emphasizing, among other centers and museums, the old University, today Laboral City of Culture (www.laboralciudaddelacultura.com). Essential places to visit are Cerro de Santa Catalina, with the famous sculpture by artist Chillida “The Praise of the Horizon”, the old town or neighborhood adjacent Cimadevilla, the Roman baths and many museums and palaces. In July they celebrate the "Black Week", famous international film festival, novels and comics.

Oviedo

Indispensable old town with lovely squares and streets. City founded on year 761 from a monastery on Mount Oveto.

In nearby Mount Naranco, must visit the most famous monuments of Pre-Romanesque: the Palace of Santa Maria del Naranco and the Church of San Miguel de Lillo, s. IX (santamariadelnaranco.blogspot.com.es). At the top of the mountain there is a spectacular view with a large sculpture of Christ the Redeemer.

Aviles

Lovely old town, Niemeyer Arts Centre, with spectacular futuristic architecture typical of this great Brazilian architect and open to all kinds of artistic events (music, film, theater, dance, exhibitions, gastronomy...): www.niemeyercenter.org. On the coast, beyond Salinas beach, Philippe Cousteau Anchor Museum is a magical outdoor museum driven by the son of the famous oceanographer Captain Cousteau.

Pola de Lena

Church of Santa Cristina de Lena (s. IX),

the other gem of Pre-Romanesque.
